August 21, 2011- A Little Common Cents Corner #2- The Top 30 Stocks Broker 203 Bought This Year

Philippine traders are very lucky that such a tool exists in the Philippine markets.  Go to any other equity market, and I believe the data is not available, and yet most people seem not to be using this tool “Broker Transactions” very carefully.  I thought twice whether I will reveal this, because if many people are using it, maybe broker indicator edges may vanish.  We’ll see. Hmm…

We’ll start of with Broker 203.  The truth is Broker 203 (CitisecOnline) which houses 22,000 clients and counting speaks of the public retail market.  Thus, checking the stocks these independent mass market traders are buying and selling upon, I felt was indicative of the kind of market participants (smart, blind, rational, irrational, greedy, fearful, hopeful, short-term, long-term, dollar cost averaging etc) that we are facing. 😀

So without further ado, these are the top 30 stocks CitisecOnline retail clients have bought in a span of a year starting from July 23, 2010 to August 19, 2011.

Ranked In Terms of Buy Amount (Not Net Buy):

1 being the highest

1-10.) AGI , LC, MEG, SMC, DMC, PX, MPI, NIKL, EDC, MBT

11-20.) MER, AP, SCC, ICT, AT, FPH, FLI, FGEN, ALI, PNB

21-30.) CEB, PCOR, LCB, MA, LPZ, ORE, TEL, LR, BEL, PWR

As you can see, Citisec Clients seem to be predominantly trading the most active stocks, whether they be third liners or blue chip stocks 😀

Of course, it will be juicier to check other brokers such as known tsupitero brokers such as Abacus (102), Tower (253), HDI (174), big time houses such as Macquarie (121), Deutsche (209) or Big name securities such as Angping (110) , F Yap (162), Citisecurities (133) etc.  I figured you can do the same trick on your own, and just leave the details in the air. 🙂  I’ll try to investigate on your favorite basura stocks in my next “Little Common Cents Corner”.  For those who are really nitpicky, just do your own analysis, and let’s see whether we can compare notes 😀

Hi Faceless Trader, I have a question. Sometimes from out of nowhere, ( take WPI for example), a brokerage ( 323, CLSA) that I did not see buy a single share comes out and sells a lot. what could be a possible explanation for this? Thank you!

    • It could be that the brokerage actually has a lot of shares, that you just couldn’t see. Most historical broker transactions can only reveal one year’s worth of data. If the shares were more than a year old, say 2 or 4 years ago, they could have a lot of shares stored.

    Hi FT,

Just curious, what does the green and pink highlight means? Thank you.
